Personal Greetings from Members of the Board
January 2016
President, Nam Song Yang Vang
Greetings to all my sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I pray that this message finds each and every one of you well. Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Nam Song Yang Vang. I will be serving as President for HUMWA for the next two years (2016-2017 terms). My husband and I have been married for 28 years and we have five children. Three daughters (Christina, Jennifer, and Melissa) and two sons (Alexander and Paul).
My family and I are members at New Hope Hmong Ministry, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My pastor is Xf. Nhia Toua Thao. It has been an amazing year and God is great. As we celebrate Christmas, we are forever reminded of God’s mercy, love and grace for all of His children.
In May of 2016, HUMWA or KHN will have our annual revival at Ridgecrest Conference Center in North Carolina. The event dates are from 5/27-30/16 (Friday through Monday). The theme will be: “YOU ARE MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD”-Genesis 1:27
God has an amazing plan for each one of us and I can’t wait to walk the journey with each and every one of you.
Until we meet again, Peace be with you.
Sau npe, Nam Song Yang Vang
Vice President, Nxf Sais Vaj

Treasurer, Niam Joshua Leake
I have been married for 12 wonderful loving years to Joshua. We have 4 great and energetic children, 3 wonderful boys and one lovely girl. We relocated to Madison, WI a little over 7 years ago and have had the privileged of being part of a small and loving United Methodist congregation here. Before serving on the board for HUMWA I was Assistant Treasurer to the Anglo church, I also served as Treasurer for the Hmong Community in Lansing, MI before. Sad to say, but this is my third and final year serving as your Treasurer and I am so very grateful for this grand opportunity to serve all of you.
I welcome any suggestions and/or comments, so please feel free to email or text me anytime. I have met so many inspiring and encouraging women, which I wouldn't have met if not on the board. Brute I leave you I would like to share a couple bible verses with you. In Hebrews 13:5 it says to Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." And most importantly Matthew 6:21 states that: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. I know life sometimes take us to unexpected places and we sometimes forget what is important, but I pray that this will help and keep you safe.

I am a woman. Not a Hmong woman and not an American woman, but just a woman – a child of God. Looking back, I have lived a thousand years, and yet I have not yet lived. I see life with a new joy, new clarity, new eyes, an open heart and a mind that has been emptied of everything I have learned, everything I have seen and everything I have known. There is no other path for me, but God’s path. There is no other way, but God’s way. Daily, I will choose to walk in the light of the Holy Spirit and trust him with all my heart, my mind, and my soul.
Yesterday, I was as an electrical engineer, a project manager, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend and I wanted to change the world. Today, I will just be me. When I was so busy being everyone and everything to everyone and everything, I didn’t stand still long enough to hear God’s soft gentle prompting that comes softly and quietly as a whisper in the wind. But when I became just Kat, in that stillness, I became the branch that “remains in the vine.” And within that context, came the promise that says, “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.” (John 15:10) It is this love that brings an inner peace that can only come from God himself. This is what drives me and gives me energy to face each new day with the joy and curiosity of a child experiencing life journeying into uncharted territories and new adventures.
As the Social Action Coordinator for 2016-2017, I am eager to see what God has put into my heart to bring forth to not only educate and edify, but to also help each and every one of us grow into the full potential that God has designed and laid out for us when we were still in our mother’s womb.

Membership Outreach and Nurturing, Niam Soua Yang Vang
Hello to all my sisters in Christ,
My name is N. Soua Yang Vang (May L. Vang), and I can’t believe that it has already been 2 years that I have had the privilege to serve as the Membership Outreach and Nurturing Coordinator for Hmong United Methodist Women Association. Most of everyone already knows me by now, but I would like to take this opportunity to tell all those that I haven’t had the chance to meet who I am.
I have lived in Charlotte, NC for about 25 years now. God blessed me with a wonderful husband who has filled my life with much love and laughter. He is my inspiration and my support in all things I do; whether it is for personal or doing God’s work. God also blessed me with two beautiful children; a daughter and a son. Because of my children’s and my husband’s support I am able to travel all around to visit everyone.
We currently attend First Hmong United Methodist Church in Charlotte. We are a small church of only about 15 families. I love my congregation because even though we are small in numbers; the love and support we have for each other is tremendous. God has truly blessed our congregation with so much and brought together a great group of people to love others as God loved us.
I look forward to another great year as the Membership Outreach and Nurturing Coordinator and cannot wait to see everyone again. I will be contacting all the thawj niamtsev for each church this coming year to schedule a time to visit all of you. If there is anything that I or HUMWA can do to help you personally or help your ladies group, please do not hesitate to call or email me. We are here to help all of you spiritually, emotionally, and physically. I am always available 24/7 to talk or just to listen.
I know that as women we are pulled in so many directions. We are so busy trying to balance being a mother, a wife, a child of God, a friend, a daughter, and all the other roles we need to be that a lot of times we forget to take care of ourselves. God created us and our job is to take care of ourselves for Him. Slow down and let God help us carry our burdens so that we can be less stressed about everything. Less stress equals a healthier and happier us. I encourage all of us in 2016 to set time just for ourselves to renew our relationship with God. Make time to unwind and connect with God whether it is thru reading the bible, talking to Him, or just quiet moments with Him. I know that if we “trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding; in all our ways acknowledge Him and He will make our paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Remember, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:5-7)
